REQUEST FOR PARTICIPATION:  Multi-breed cryptorchidism study.
synopsis
A study is being conducted by Dr. Vicki Meyers-Wallen and her team at Cornell University, "in collaboration with other investigators", to locate the mutation(s) that cause cryptorchidism in multiple breeds of domestic dogs, "which is failure of the testes to descend into the scrotum.  Our objective is to find the genes responsible for this disorder in the dog.  We are currently collecting DNA samples from cryptorchid males and their parents and grandparents in canine families."
how to participate
"The most useful samples are those from affected cryptorchid dogs, their sire and dam, and at least one full brother that is not affected.  If more brothers (affected or normal) or grandparents are available, these are also useful and should be included."
"Before taking any samples, it is best to tell [Dr. Meyers-Wallen] what dogs you can get samples from and how they are related to each other.  (Wait until you get a "go ahead" from [her] before you start sampling.)"  Please contact her by e-mail at .
